Leadership Texarkana is offering a new community leadership program for senior adults in partnership with the SAGE program at Texarkana College.   The program is designed to engage and equip senior adults for new thinking about our community as they are given the opportunity to learn more about what’s to love, and where the challenges lie, and in the process, to imagine potential new opportunities for their active participation in creating our best collective future.

The exciting new program consists of seven one-day sessions that meet on alternate Tuesdays, from 9AM to 2PM, beginning January 24, 2017 (specific dates are listed online).  Each session will focus on a different aspect of the community such as tours of the city, health care, government and public safety, community enrichment through the arts, business and education opportunities, and defining your legacy.

The program will be led by Texarkana native Dr. Lila Walker, whose resume includes years of teaching Leadership through TAMU-T.   LT Executive Director Ruth Ellen Whitt is delighted that Leadership Texarkana was encouraged to develop this program in conjunction with Texarkana College’s SAGE program.  Whitt says, “Dr. Walker is always a favorite of her many students, as she brings a personal and entertaining take on her subject, so we know this program will be not only educationally enriching, but a pleasure for all involved, also.”  Dr. Walker is excited about the new Senior Community Leadership program for SAGES, recognizing that  “Senior adults have rich backgrounds through their work and life experiences that can be valuable assets to create a vibrant community and add to their personal quality of life. “

The cost of the program is $480 payable to Leadership Texarkana and includes lunch for each session.  Although paralleling the TC SAGE opportunity, this Senior Leadership program is part of the Leadership Texarkana organization, and the SAGE fee charged by TC does not apply.

Online registration and details are available at LeadershipTexarkana.com; registration deadline is January 10, 2017.   There is a minimum enrollment of 8 participants for the class to be held; maximum number in the program will be 20.   Questions may be addressed to info@leadershiptexarkana.com.
