Ready for this, I'm about to sound like an old guy here... I remember getting a quarter for some of my earliest tooths! I don't recall actually ever really believing in the tooth fairy, but getting money for teeth? I was in, sign me up.

And Now...

Now the national average is up to $4.57! Per tooth!

I'm not sure what the spending power of a quarter was back in the day, but that seems a little on the high end to me.

Kids' games and stuff in general cost way more than what we bought back then. We had rocks and sticks of course, and they were free, usually. Board games were expensive I guess, but kids never had to pay for those kinds of things. The money I received probably went for donuts.

Top 6 Tooth Fairy Payouts by State

Why the Top 6? Simple, one of the states that's of interest to us didn't come into play until #6. These numbers are based on a survey done by the Dental Care Alliance and shown in the results graphic below.

#6: Texas at $6 per tooth.

#5: Rhode Island at $6.12 per tooth.

#4: Mississippi at $6.17 per tooth.

#3: Florida at $7.42 per tooth.

#2: Hawaii at $8.39 per tooth.

#1: Delaware at $8.91 per tooth.

Since most children have 20 baby teeth, simple math would indicate $178.20 for a face-full in Delaware. That's pretty good monies for a kid.

LOOK: 50 famous memes and what they mean

With the infinite number of memes scattered across the internet, it's hard to keep track. Just when you've grasped the meaning of one hilarious meme, it has already become old news and replaced by something equally as enigmatic. Online forums like Tumblr, Twitter, 4chan, and Reddit are responsible for a majority of meme infections, and with the constant posting and sharing, finding the source of an original meme is easier said than done. Stacker hunted through internet resources, pop culture publications, and databases like Know Your Meme to find 50 different memes and what they mean. While the almost self-replicating nature of these vague symbols can get exhausting, memes in their essence can also bring people closer together—as long as they have internet access.
