Texarkana Airport To Expand With New Terminal

Talk of a new passenger terminal at Texarkana Regional Airport began 15 years ago, but the ground breaking has official started. I've never flown into nor from Texarkana Regional Airport, but that may very well be about to change as the airport has plans to expand and will add additional airlines.

According to a report from KTBS, the new terminal will be four times as large as the current terminal. As it stands, the airport has only one terminal with American Airlines as its only commercial airline. However, the new terminal could host up to four airlines.

Paul Mehrlich, Texarkana Regional Airport director, told KTBS the airport wants to grow to parallel the growth and changes in the city.

"We can expect the new building will be around for about 50 years. We wanted to future proof it and allow us to expand, bring in large aircraft and larger airlines as our community changes and grows as well.

On of the advantages of the new terminal will be the airport's access from Interstate 49. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new terminal was held June 12 and streamed live due to COVID precautions. The project will cost $36 Million and is expected to be complete in fall of 2024.
