Last winter my wife and I took a couple of days and went down to Jefferson, Texas for a little weekend adventure. While we have both been to Jefferson several times over the years, the one thing neither of us had done yet was a Ghost Walk Tour. Was it worth the drive?

I think there are actually several tours available around town, this is the one we chose and I think we made the best choice, the Historic Jefferson Ghost Walk.

We started off just across the street from the most haunted hotel in Texas, The Jefferson Hotel, which if you haven't been to lately, check out the link to my post about that place at the bottom of the page.

There were about 40 people or so in our tour group, it was pretty chilly that night so if you go in the winter, wear something warm. This tour takes approximately 2 hours outside roaming the town, if it's hot you're going to sweat, if it's cold you're going to freeze, dress appropriately. Good idea to avoid drinking a lot before you go too, I don't recall any places to take a potty break during the tour.

That night we were staying at the Historic Kahn Saloon which happened to be right where the tour started just outside our door.

Our tour guide was Jodi Breckenridge (above in the headset), she told us great stories about each of the haunted locations including the place we were staying. There were quite a few stories that you will hear for the first time on this tour. Have you heard the story about Steven Spielberg's inspiration for "Poltergeist?" Happened right there in Jefferson.

We got to go inside the Jefferson Hotel across the street where the owner showed us some photos and video he caught on his security cameras inside the hotel. You may have seen some of them already on ghost-hunting TV shows.

I was out of hot chocolate by the time we finished in the Jefferson and moved out into the street for more stories. Good thing too, or you know, that potty search might have been rough.

During the tour, you will hear haunting stories about the Jefferson Hotel, The Kahn Saloon, The Excelsior Hotel, and several other houses and locations around town.

There was another building that came at the end of the tour we got to go in as well, way upstairs in the darkness. I took several snapshots, even in the dark, hoping for something to be caught looking back at me, no such luck.

My wife thinks the ghosties won't talk to us because I can't take that lamp shade off my head and be serious for a moment... she could be right. But I am, who I am, lampshade and all.

Anyway, we had a great time, it was a great tour, very entertaining, and pretty decent exercise to boot. Highly recommended, and absolutely... worth the drive.
