On Sunday, November 9 the Alzheimer’s Alliance Tri-State Area will partner with UAMS Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program to host a come-and-go Caregiver Appreciation Day at the Texarkana Regional Center on Aging.

The event will start at 9AM with a kickoff by Twin City Mayors Bob Bruggerman and Ruth Penney-Bell. The event is in honor of National Caregiver’s Month. There will be door prizes all day, goodie bags, refreshments and much more for caregivers. A grand prize drawing of a Yeti cooler donated by Ledwell Office Solutions will be held at the end of the event. Caregivers that registered at the event will be eligible to win.  Information and resources for the caregivers will be available, as well as Pastoral care and an Elder Law consultant to discuss issues Caregivers face on a daily basis.  A de-stress zone for caregivers will be available featuring mini-manicure and hand massages by Texarkana College Cosmetology.  Easy and healthy recipes and samples will be provided by Heat It Up.

Wadley Senior Clinic will be providing flu shots throughout the day – there will be a $20 charge for the shot (insurance not accepted).

“November is National Caregiver’s month and this is our way of giving back to caregivers, a way to say thank you for all that they do.  Our goal is to provide a few hours of rest, a little pampering and hopefully, a way for them to recharge”, said Terrie Arnold, Executive Director for the Alzheimer’s Alliance Tri-State Area.

In addition to our “de-stress zone”, caregivers can visit the vendor area dedicated to resources. The event will provide caregivers with the opportunity to learn about community resources that are available. Local resource and health care providers will be talking with caregivers, answering questions and giving out information to assist them in being the most successful caregiver possible.
