Be Honest, Do You Have A ‘Buc-ee’s’ Addiction? I Think I Do!

Can you do it? Can you drive by Buc-ee's without stopping? I can, but only when I know I'll be stopping there on the way back. How about this? How much do you spend when you're there? You don't have to tell me, but you should be able to at least admit it to yourself. You might be, a "Buc-ee's Addict".

Hi, my name is Jim, and I'm addicted to a convenience store... We've talked about it before, when we're on the road traveling across the Great State of Texas and you just have to stop and shop at the world's biggest and bestest convenience store, Buc-ee's.

Last weekend I was on a road trip to Fort Worth for my brother's birthday party, it was a quick overnighter this time, drove down on Saturday, headed back Sunday. But I knew one thing for sure, I was going to stop at Buc-ee's Royse City on the way home.

Beaver Nuggets to BBQ, candy to nuts, big drinks to souvenirs, the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen, oh, and don't forget the gas, if you need it. I don't normally need it at this point in my trip but you won't have any trouble finding a pump, if my math is right there are 96 of them at this location.

The Katy, Texas Buc-ee's location has, and maybe it still is, the longest car wash in the world. They do it big at Buc-ee's, that's for sure. No 18-wheelers allowed, this is just for you and me, weary traveler.

Let's talk money, I usually drop $50 - $60 every time I walk into one of these places, and that's not including a fill-up at the pump. We're talking about food, drinks, take-home snacks, and maybe a new coffee mug or two. Last time my wife and I stopped together here we also purchased our soon-to-be granddaughter's first Buc-ee's outfit, a tie-dye T-shirt and pants. We won't even talk about the bill that day. Sheesh!

Not bad for "Convenience Store," our hats off to Arch "Beaver" Aplin III who opened the first store near Lake Jackson, Texas in 1982. You have done your state proud, you seem to take good care of your employees by paying them well, and you have made one heck of a destination store for a lot of people, including me.

Last weekend I was traveling alone, and for once, I departed a Buc-ee's spending less than $12... that's a first! One day, someday, I might be able to drive by without even stopping. But I kinda doubt it. Pray for me.

If you're headed Eastbound on I-30, may I suggest you grab a BBQ sandwich, freshly made potato chips, and a big fountain drink, and take it all 20 minutes down the road to sit down and enjoy a little picnic at ...
