Bowie County Sheriffs Deputies make a drug arrest after finding alleged methamphetamine and other drugs during traffic stop.

Authorities say Deputy Shawn Martin made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 30 near Hooks. Martin stated the driver of the truck was slow to bring the vehicle to a stop, and he observed the passenger moving around excessively and that he threw something out of the window.

Martin indicated that he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and that after a search of the vehicle found two pipes used to smoke methamphetamine and two bags that allegedly contained methamphetamine. A complete search of the passenger allegedly produced more meth and marijuana, some 27 grams of the drug according to authorities.

The passenger, 45 year old Rico Renard Hawkins of Mount Pleasant, Texas was arrested and charged with possession of a Controlled Substance over Four Grams and Under 200 grams, and possession of marijuana under two ounces.

Authorities say he is jailed in the Bi-State Justice Center with bond set at $25,000 on the first charge and $2,500 on the second charge.
