ZZ Top Unveil New Blues-Influenced ‘Consumption’ Song
This coming Tuesday (June 5), fans of Texas blues trio ZZ Top will be able to get their hands on the first new music from the band in almost a decade. They don’t have to wait even that long to hear one of the songs.
As reported, the ‘Texicali’ EP precedes a Rick Rubin-produced full-length effort that is reportedly due later this year. ‘Texicali’ is comprised of four songs, one of which, ‘Consumption,’ can be heard below.
In listening to ‘Consumption’, the song could easily be considered be a sign of good things to come from the group’s next record. Judging by the sound of the song, it marks a sharp return to their early days, arguably owing more to their bluesy roots than much of their other output over the past two decades.
Of course, the song has some pretty big boots to fill. In late April, ZZ Top’s ‘La Grange” landed at in the No. 19 position on Ultimate Classic Rock’s list of the Top 100 Classic Rock Songs of all time.
