Anyone that is traveling the roads in Texarkana knows that the ongoing construction is a big pain in the butt. But this road construction is a small price to pay to hopefully keep our roads safer. But I have noticed that people are driving way too fast on some of the roads in Texarkana.

I am talking about those access roads that run parallel to the Interstate in Texarkana. Namely the road that runs east from Kings Highway to Stateline. I drive on this road a few times a week. My daughter Addy goes to Nash Elementary and when we are headed home this road seems like the safer way to go with all of the highway construction, but no it is actually more dangerous.

It all starts at this spot just east of Kings Highway this is where the road loses a lane and it is the speed limit is 55.

This is the first intersection with an issue. People always make a hard left turn because they were not paying attention and they really want to go straight.

At this intersection people coming from University Avenue want to get on the interstate and they have to cross two lanes of traffic. It is dangerous and most folks are not looking when they make this two-lane merge onto Interstate 30.

Here is my biggest gripe about this road. It goes from 55 to 45 as we go under the mix master. This is right before you merge with the traffic from Mall Drive right by the Classic used car dealer.

As you go in this direction this is the most dangerous part of the road. We now have traffic from three different sources all making their way to the most popular street in Texarkana, Richmond Road. Most folks are driving at least 10 above the posted 45 mph.

This is where the speeding really gets bad. I have been passed with people going at least 55 or more as they go by the back entrance of the mall. As you can see it has a posted speed limit of 45 mph.

By the time you get to the old Church on the Rock location, the race is on for some reason. The speed limit is 55 here but no one is doing that. Most people are going close to the same speed or higher as the Interstate's 65 mph by now.

Most people don't know that on occasion there is a police officer on the side street right before you get to the car lot. The road is just past the water tower.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but a lot of people make the same scary move going across multiple lanes from the right to the interstate here and it makes for a scary situation, plus there is always a mad dash to get in the correct lane for the light. Most people are driving way above the speed limit here.
