The Texarkana Independent School District has shared an email with critical information for students that are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

TISD states It is important for parents to be aware of this protocol in case your student starts exhibiting any of these symptoms. Students with COVID-19 symptoms may not come on campus until certain criteria for campus re-entry are met. This is according to the guidelines set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and are among the many efforts to keep students and staff safe during this time. Additionally, siblings that live in the household with the symptomatic student are also not allowed to be on campus until campus re-entry requirements are met, due to possible close contact exposure.

There are several symptoms of COVID-19 and they are listed below:

Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit

Loss of taste or smell

Cough

Difficulty breathing

Shortness of breath

Fatigue

Headache

Chills

Sore throat

Congestion or runny nose

Shaking or exaggerated shivering

Significant muscle pain or ache

Diarrhea

Nausea or vomiting

If your student is exhibiting any of these symptoms, please keep them at home and notify the campus office. If they are on the campus and start exhibiting symptoms, the campus health personnel will review and if applicable, will contact you to pick up your student from the campus as soon as possible.

The scenarios and conditions for the symptomatic student to re-enter the campus are listed below:

If a student is diagnosed with COVID-19, the student may return to school when all three of the following criteria are met.

1. At least 10 calendar days have passed since symptoms first appeared

2. At least 24 hours have passed with no fever with the use of fever-reducing medications

3. Symptoms have improved.

The student has symptoms and not evaluated by a medical professional or tested for COVID-19

In the case of a student who has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and who is not evaluated by a medical professional or tested for COVID-19, such an individual is assumed to have COVID-19 and may not return to campus until all three of the following criteria are met.

1. At least 10 calendar days have passed since symptoms first appeared

2. At least 24 hours have passed with no fever with use of fever-reducing medications

3. Symptoms have improved.

The student has symptoms and wants to return to school before completing the three criteria above

If the student has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school before completing the above three criteria with a stay at home period, the student must either

(a) obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the student for return based on an alternative diagnosis, or

(b) obtain an acute infection test that comes back negative for COVID-19 as well as a medical professional's written approval to return to school.

If your student has COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them at home, have them isolate, and contact your health care provider for further evaluation. Please notify the school office if your child receives a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Any student who has experienced symptoms must re-enter the school following the criteria above and with clearance through the school health personnel.

To continue instruction and learning during this time, your child's campus will offer a temporary remote learning opportunity as your child's health allows. Please contact your home campus office for details.

We understand this is a challenging time, and we share with you the mutual interest of the health and safety of all our students and staff. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact your campus office.
