The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday night near the intersection of West 14th and Crockett Streets.
According to the press release, officers were dispatched to a shots fired call at that location at approximately 6PM yesterday.
Within minutes of that call, other officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Apple Street where a shooting victim was reported to be. Police say it was determined that the 28 year-old man found there had been shot at the scene of the initial call on West 14th Street.
Witnesses told police that a group of three men got out of their vehicle and approached another group of men who were already at that location. After a brief verbal exchange between the two groups, they allegedly began using handguns to fire at each other.
Both groups reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived. The man who suffered a single gunshot wound to his left arm was treated at Christus St. Michael Health System. It is unknown at this point if he was involved in the confrontation or a bystander.
Detectives and crime scene technicians responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. Officers say they observed that at least one vehicle at the scene had been struck by bullets and they recovered several spent cartridges as evidence.
