Texarkana Celebrates Scott Joplin With a Full Weekend of Events
Come celebrate Texarkana's famous son Scott Joplin March 31 through April 2 in downtown Texarkana for the Scott Joplin International Centennial Celebration.
According to the Texarkana Regional Music Heritage Center Facebook page, the events will kick off Friday, March 31, with a preview night of live entertainment at Silvermoon on Broad.
Saturday, April 1 from 11AM to Noon will be a sign dedication ceremony at the Scott Joplin Mural located at West 3rd Street and Main Street in Texarkana, Texas. Then the live music begins from noon to 5PM. This is a free event.
The Texarkana Museum of Regional History, located 219 North State Line, will also celebrate by showing a new documentary about Joplin and his music. Showings
will begin at 1PM and be held every hour with the last showing starting at 4PM. The screenings are free. Tours of the museum and the Joplin Exhibit are $5.
At 7:30PM the celebration continues at the Perot Theatre with performances by the Four States Student Jazz Showcase, Carol Collins-Miles, Scott Joplin artist Reginald Robinson and the Texarkana Jazz Orchestra. Tickets and more information is available online or call (903) 793-4831.
Texarkana Rocks 1954-1956 will perform Sunday at 2PM at the Perot. Tickets are available online. Followed by more free events starting at 4PM with a plaque dedication and a tour of the Arkansas Municipal Auditorium. At 7PM more music and artwork dedication at the Lindsey Railroad Museum at 200 East Broad Street in Texarkana, Ark.
