The spring season kicks into high gear this weekend. If you are looking for something fun to do with your family or friends I've got just the thing for you! Head to historical Van Buren, Arkansas, and hop onboard the Arkansas/ Missouri Railroad train for a trip through the mountains.

Like most kids growing up, I have always loved trains. Nothing connects you to a great American tradition like riding the rails because you can get a different perspective of the landscape and countryside you won't get in a car.

There is an excursion train that you can take in Van Buren that will take you over bridges, tressels, tunnels, rivers, and through the beautiful scenic Boston Mountains for some incredibly breathtaking views.

There are two options available a 70-mile round trip from Van Buren to Winslow or a 134-mile round trip to Van Buren from Springdale.

The Springdale to Van Buren trip takes about 8 hours to complete with a 2-hour stopover in Van Buren for some shopping and dining. These trains feature glass dome railcars including the dining car that gives you the ultimate experience as you round the winding curves around the mountainside and valley.

For those looking for a trip closer to home this year, you can't go wrong by making a day or weekend and taking a train ride onboard the Arkansas Missouri Railway.
