Southern Arkanasas University Hosting Engineering And Coding/Cyber Security Youth Summer Camps
Southern Arkansas University’s College of Science and Engineering in Magnolia, AR is adding a new Coding and Cyber Security Summer Camp this year along with offering the third-annual Engineering Summer Camp.
According to a press release, The Coding and Cyber Security Summer Camp is scheduled for June 5-7, 2017. It is open to students entering grades eight through 12, and overnight or daily participants are welcome. Cost is $250, and includes room and board and a T-shirt. The Engineering Summer Camp is also open to students entering grades eight through 12, and the registration fee is $250 (includes room and board and a T-shirt). It is scheduled for July 10-12, 2017. Applications are due online at www.SAUmag.edu/Engineering-Camp by July 3.
Attendance to both camps is only $400 total (a $100 savings), with payment due on May 28.

For the coding/cyber security camp, the primary goal is to grow high school students’ interest in studying computer science. Participants will learn how to code simple applications and will get involved in hands-on Android application projects, create virtual landscapes in Unity that blow in the wind and simulate day and night lighting conditions. Exploration of cyber security will include the gathering of forensic information about cyber-attacks.
Engineering Camp participants will enjoy hands-on projects related to engineering and physics. Engineering projects will include building and programming of Lego Mindstorms robots, playing with Arduino-based electronics and hardware, designing the path of a robotic arm, building of model bridges and structures, design and modeling with Solid Works and material testing using a force tester. Activities will also include demonstrations in physics and astronomy night observations.
There will be an awards ceremony at the end of each of the three-day camps.
