Parade, Shopping, Trains and Fun Downtown Texarkana Tonight Monday Dec 5

Get ready because it’s official, Christmas in Texarkana kicks off this evening Monday, December 5. There is a lot going on from a Christmas Market to a Christmas parade to trains.  

Christmas Market

Enjoy all the fun at the Christmas Market from 5 PM. to 7 PM at the Kress Gap, 116 W Broad Street in downtown Texarkana. You'll be able to do some Christmas shopping from local and regional vendors. Plus be sure to check out the live cooking demonstration featuring a Traditional Jamaican Christmas Meal.

The Christmas Parade

Then get ready for the 38th Annual Christmas Parade presented by Main Street Texarkana. The parade starts at 7 PM. This year's theme  “All Aboard the T-Town Express”.

 KCS Holiday Express Train

There is another special treat coming on Monday evening. It's the Kansas City Southern Holiday Express Train and Santa is on board.  The KCS Holiday Express Train is a wonderful tradition as it makes its way through states during the holiday season. You will be able to board the train and visit Santa and his elves. It's a six-car train and visitors can tour 3 of the cars that will be decked out for the holidays.

The KCS will be in Texarkana Monday, December 5. If you plan on checking out the KCS then you will need to park at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park located at West 12th Street in Texarkana, Texas. Then you will be shuttled to the railyard for this unique experience. The shuttles will run from 5:30 PM to 8 PM.

Downtown Texarkana Christmas Tree

Something else you'll see downtown is the 20-ft Christmas tree that weighs 800 lbs. It was funded by the City of Texarkana, Texas and the City of Texarkana, Arkansas. It is located at the Federal Building Post Office on Stateline. Over the past few years, it's been located on the Texas side but now its location is back on Stateline.

Texas City Manager David Orr stated in a press release;

“The Christmas tree is such a significant part of the holidays and we felt it was a great way to symbolize our collaborations together. It only made sense to put it back on the Stateline.”

Arkansas City Manager Jay Ellington also commented about the two cities coming together;

“We won’t pass up any chance to join forces in making our downtown community come to life. The holidays provide the perfect time to come together.”
