Michael and Deborah Malek of Hope, Arkansas, have established the Michael and Deborah Malek Endowed Scholarship at the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana to benefit students pursuing a degree or certificate from UAHT.

In a press release, Deborah Malek said “We consider it is a privilege to be able to provide an endowment to the UAHT Foundation for student scholarships. The recent sale of our family business has created an opportunity to endow this scholarship and provide a lasting opportunity for students to improve their lives.”

The scholarships provided by this endowment will give preference to non-traditional students from Hempstead County who enroll in a technical and industrial program. “As educators by training, we believe in the power of education to change lives and, thereby, improve the quality of life in one’s community. Our goal is to help local citizens who are juggling jobs and family attend college and better their opportunities in life. UAHT is a portal for progress in our community and provides the opportunity for students to do just that,” said Mike Malek.

“The Malek’s have had a close relationship with UAHT for years,” said Foundation Director Jill Bobo. “Michael is a former instructor, and Deborah is a member of the UAHT Foundation Board. This relationship has given them many opportunities through the years to be a part of the immense success of the college and in helping give students a brighter future. Their endowed scholarship will ensure a continuing interest and support in the future of UAHT students.”
