Miller County Detention Officers Complete Training
Eleven new detention officers completed basic jailer’s school Friday January 20, 2017, at the Miller County Detention Center.
The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards certified jailer’s course involves fifty-six hours of training which covers Ethics, Professionalism, Jail Standards, Searching of Persons and Cells, Prisoner Transport, Escape Prevention, Inmate Discipline, Use of Force, Constitutional Rights, Report Writing, Occupational Stress, and Caring for Special Needs Inmates.
The Officers were taught numerous self-defense tactics. They were certified to use OC spray and JPX pepper gun system to assist them in use of force situations. CPR and AED defibrillator lifesaving skills were also taught to the detention officers.
The courses were taught by Detective Wesley Penny, MCSO (Miller County Sheriff Office), Detective Patsy DeHart, MCSO, Officer Shane Johnston, MCSO, Officer Tony Hanning, MCSO, Lt. Golden Adams, MCSO, Dr. Yates Morgan, MCSO, Officer Chris King and Cody Easley, Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department, Robert Tibbit, Arkansas Game and Fish, Anita Taylor, Southern Health Partners, and Shon Matthews, LifeNet Emergency Medical Services.
Sheriff Jackie Runion stated he is proud of the men and women who completed the training and is looking forward to working together with them in providing the citizens of Miller County a safe and secure detention center.
The Miller County Detention Center has three hundred beds and houses male and female felony and misdemeanor inmates. All felony arrestees in Miller County are housed in the detention center. Inmates in the center are awaiting federal, state or local trials, or placement in penitentiaries across the nation. There are forty-one full time employees at the Miller County Detention Center.
