Kevin Feige Is ‘Eager’ to Get the X-Men Into the MCU
The Disney-Fox merger is looking more imminent every day, as Disney seems to be intent on acquiring Fox’s most lucrative properties. The Avatar sequels would be a huge get for the company that already has a theme park land based on the movies, but comic fans are growing excited about another possibility: We might finally see some X-Men interact with some Avengers.
According to Deadline’s story on the matter, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, who is sitting pretty on a billion-dollar franchise he began from the bottom up, is “eager” to add the X-Men to the mix.
He’s said to be eager to get his hands on the X-Men universe — Fox has Deadpool 2, New Mutants, Dark Phoenix, Gambit, X-Force and the James Franco-starrer Multiple Man all on the assembly line — and cross-pollinate the rich swarm of characters with the existing Marvel franchise heroes who show up in each other’s films.
The X-Men and the Avengers belonging to different studios has long been a sticking point for many fans, frustrating those who would rather see all their favorite heroes under one roof, allowed to meet up with each other without some overly complicated studio deal hanging over their heads. The X-Men have belonged to Fox since way before Marvel Studios was anything more than a company that made deals to license out its own properties, and with superhero universes getting bigger, it’s only getting more and more awkward to keep the Avengers and X-Men separate. Deadpool even broke the fourth wall repeatedly to make snide jokes about it.
There are still those who are wary of a deal that would see Disney become even more of a studio juggernaut — isn’t it better to have a lot of moderate-sized studios making their own stuff than one huge one dictating what everyone else does and reaping all the benefits? But Tony Stark and the Hulk getting to chat with Storm and Wolverine may be too tempting a possibility to pass up.
