[Updated 4:56 p.m.] Amarillo police have released the name of the gunman who was shot and killed by the department's SWAT team: 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam.

Moghaddam took hostages inside an Amarillo Walmart Tuesday morning during what was initially described as a workplace dispute. He was shot and killed during a standoff with police that lasted roughly one hour.

[Update 12:46 p.m.] The Amarillo Police Department has confirmed that the gunman who took hostages inside an Amarillo Walmart location is dead. The hostages are reportedly safe inside the store.

[Original story] A gunman entered a Walmart in Amarillo Tuesday morning, taking several people hostage.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers are inside the Walmart, located at I-27 and Georgia. No gunshot victims have been confirmed, say police.

ABC 7 in Amarillo is reporting that witnesses say the suspect is a Walmart employee.
