The Texas Department of Public Safety says they made more than 1,000 DWI arrests during a Spring Break special enforcement period this year.The targeted DWI enforcement was from Marh 8 through March 17th, which included additional patrol hours funded by a Texas Department of Transportation grant.

With Texas being a popular spring break destination, authoroties believe these DWI patrols help save lives. of the 1,077 arrests, 226 were a direct result of the increased patrols. The TxDOT grant allowed troopers to focus DWI patrols in high-risk locations during the times when alcohol-related crashes are the most frequent.

DPS enforcement also resulted in more than 11,400 speeding citations, 1,600 seat belt/child safety seat tickets and 12,000 other citations. In addtion, troopers made 552 fugitive arrests and 463 felony arrests during this time period.
