Texas High Student Council Recognized for Excellence

The Texas High School Student Council has earned the National Gold Council of Excellence Award.

The award is from the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) and this marks  the eighth consecutive year that the Tigers have won this honor.

Out of an estimated 9,000 member councils, only 225 in the country were recognized with the highly-esteemed award given for exemplary record of leadership, service and activities which improve school and community.  In the state of Texas, only 32 high school councils were honored.

To qualify for the award, a member council must meet 26 standards and conduct a minimum of three projects in 12 areas of community and school activities. A minimum of four projects must be submitted for approval and published on the NASC project database.

The National Association of Student Councils (NASC) promotes and provides leadership development opportunities to prepare and empower students to serve their schools and communities. NASC is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

The NASSP – the preeminent organization and national voice for middle level and high school leaders – also sponsors the National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), which recognizes outstanding middle level and high school students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.
