Texarkana residents were asked to cut back on non essential water use on Labor Day due to a leak.Bill King, Executive Director of Texarkana Water Utilities has advised residents of Texarkana, Arkansas and Texas to self-restrict water usage over the next 24 hours, due to a major leak in a 36 inch main that serves the city.

“Residents should refrain from all non-essential water use with a focus on irrigation,” King said. “We have been working very hard to repair the issue since being notified about it early Saturday morning, but for now we need residents’ cooperation.”

Non-essential water use includes watering yards, flowers and plants and filling swimming pools, running sprinklers for recreation and more.

The repairs are expected to be made by the end of Monday, September 7, 2015, and a follow-up release will be sent when repairs are complete and water usage can return to normal.

We have not yet gotten the all clear from the water department as of Tuesday morning.
