In recognition of Computer Science Education Week (December 3-9), several of the Texarkana Arkansas School District campuses will participate in the Hour of Code. This global movement reaches tens of millions of students in 180+ countries and is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 6, 1906). The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science designed to demystify code, show that anybody can learn the basics, and broaden participation in the field of computer science.
According to the Press Release, the goal of the Hour of Code is not to teach you to become an expert computer scientist in one hour. The event provides an opportunity to learn that computer science (CS) is fun and creative. The success of the Hour of Code is in the broad participation across gender, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, as well as, the resulting increase in enrollment and participation in CS courses at all grade levels. That is why students and teachers in the Texarkana Arkansas School District are joining in on the largest learning event in history. Campuses will participate in the Hour of Code on various days and times during Computer Science Education Week. For schedule details, please contact your child’s campus, and to learn more about Hour of Code visit hourofcode.com/us.
