Texarkana Independent School District is preparing to host two “zone talk” community meetings. The district is looking at realigning the current attendance zone map in preparation for the opening of its newest elementary school located on Gibson Lane.

“With our new elementary school on Gibson Lane scheduled to open in August of this year, we feel that it is important for the TISD community and parents to give us their input on what they would like to see as the new school zone,” said Paul Norton, Superintendent of Schools.”

Meetings will be held on Thursday, January 21, at Nash Elementary School and Thursday, January 28, at Spring Lake Park Elementary School. Both meetings will begin at 6PM.

One of the current options being reviewed is to include all areas of the TISD school zone that is north of I-30. The TISD Board of Trustees will approve the final zoned area during their February or March regular session. Applications for school enrollment will be accepted in April.

The new campus will be located on 15 acres off Gibson Lane near the southwest corner of the Encore Waggoner Creek Apartment Homes.
With a total of 67,800 square feet, the school is expected to serve approximately 400 students in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade and will feature a pod design for extended learning spaces.
Included in the design are: 22 classrooms; Research & Design Center/Library; Media Center; Art Room; Gymnasium; Cafeteria and Kitchen. The facility has been designed and positioned for add-on space for future enrollment growth, above the 400 capacity.
