In an effort to encourage school-aged children to develop a greater interest in reading, the Junior League of Texarkana has partnered with Union Elementary to promote literacy. According to the Press Release, 302 students will enjoy a day that is all about reading, beginning with a “Spring Into Reading” pep rally, motivational speeches from coaches and athletes who also reveal their favorite books, and the afternoon is spent reading with Junior League volunteers and students from area high schools.

Every child goes home with a backpack and new books! As they say, “Reading is Fundamental” and who doesn’t enjoy a great book!

The Junior League of Texarkana would like to thank their Community Partners, Texarkana College, Texarkana Public Library, Ark-Tex Council of Governments and SportsMagic for their support with this community project.

The Junior League of Texarkana, Inc. (JLT) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
