This might seem a little creepy to you and me but if you're The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Funeral Service Association recently received an invitation to tour the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s office in Little Rock. During the tour, Arkansas' Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Ted Brown, shared with the students how important it is for communication and respect between funeral service practitioners and the crime lab staff.

The tour was not only around the Medical Examiner’s Office, but they were also able to tour the Arkansas State Crime Lab where they observed scientific services and procedures provided to the criminal justice community.

The Arkansas ME's Office and Crime Lab are co-located in the same building in Little Rock. More than 1,500 cases are referred annually to the Medical Examiner’s Office with over 1,200 of the cases undergoing complete autopsy examination.

Did you know that Arkansas opened its first regional crime laboratory on April 12th, 2004, on the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana campus? The UAHT laboratory currently offers testing for cases involving suspected controlled substance violations. The facility comprises approximately 2200 square feet of administrative, evidence storage, and laboratory areas.

The students that received the tour are currently enrolled in the UAHT Associate of Applied Science degree in Funeral Service Education. This degree program is designed to teach students the skills necessary for employment as a funeral director and embalmer. The American Board of Funeral Service Education-accredited program is offered on-campus and online.

For more information about this and other programs offered at UAHT or to register for classes, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Purtle Advising Center at 870-722-8124, or email pac@uaht.edu.

New Automated McDonalds in Ft Worth, Texas Gallery:

The fact is, this McDonalds is not "fully automated", they have a smaller staff working in the kitchen filling the orders, but the counter-person, all-to-often found with a bad attitude, has been eliminated in this dining concept. This new McDonalds is much smaller and has no seating for indoor dining. This is a take-out-only concept with all staff concentrating on getting the orders right. Will it work? We'll see.
