Saturday is recycling time in Texarkana and people are recycling just about everything they can before summertime hits.

Green Texarkana, the monthly recycling event hosted by the City of Texarkana, Ark., will be this Saturday, June 11.

"We're getting lots of plastic kiddie pools and broken lawn chairs," said Brandy Chewning, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Texarkana, Ark. "Everyone is upgrading for summer."

Green Texarkana is free and provides responsible disposal for paper, cardboard, plastics and metal cans. Electronics such as TVs, computers, radios, printers and gaming systems are also accepted for recycling.

Thankfully, many others items are also available for recycling.

"Well, with school getting out, we recently received several thousand pounds of old textbooks and books from the school libraries. I just got in a load of industrial plastic pallets from a military office. We took in the remains of an aluminum dog pen recently, and an electric ice cream maker," Chewning noted.

Green Texarkana takes place from 8AM and 1PM Saturday at East Third and Hazel Streets.

However, hazardous materials like glass, Styrofoam, tires, fluorescent lights, furniture and paint are not accepted.

Residents must wait to bring their items to the recycling center until volunteers arrive at 8AM Saturday. Bringing items prior to this time and leaving them in the parking lot is considered littering.
