High School Football is Just Around the Corner
The beginning of August means classes, high school football, and eventually cooler weather, which is in our not too distant future.
In fact, high school football practices, often referred to as two-a-days began at a lot of schools across our area today.
While July and August are the hottest months of the year, statistically in the Texarkana area, at least when we get to August we know the peak heat will soon be past us and fall with officially arrive before September is done. The above mentioned football practices that began today are another sign that better days are soon to come. By the first Friday of next month all area teams will have played their first games of the season.
Season ticket holders from last year have begun to purchase their tickets for this season and tickets for the general public will go on sale within the week. While kids may not like talking about going back to school, there is something refreshing about the start of a new school year that is often to me more special that the start of a new calendar year.
It's like a new beginning with endless possibilities for my children to excel, both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. Of course, there will be ups and downs throughout the school year, but it is exciting to begin the new year.
So, for the kids who are not ready for summer to end, or for you adults who love hot weather, enjoy your month of August. For the rest of us, the best time of the year is just around the corner.
I plan on, very soon, doing a series of posts on the upcoming high school football seasons for Arkansas High, Liberty-Eylau, Pleasant Grove, and Texas High. I will be talking to the respective coaches of each school and finding out what they anticipate out of their teams this year and what players we should be watching for to emerge as team leaders.
I do know that for the first time ever, Arkansas High and Pleasant Grove will be playing each other in football. This will bring us another cross town rivalry to talk about and experience. Both schools are pumped about playing each other and we look forward to covering it here.
