Museum of the Red River Hosting FREE Continuing Ed Workshop In Idabel, OK, July 22

The Museum of the Red River will host two workshops on teaching and developmental trauma with Orli Avi-Yonah, Ph.D., MSW, on July 22. The program includes three hours of lecture and workshop participation. The first hour will look at what developmental trauma is. The second hour will focus on challenging situations participants may face at their school or other educational settings. Participants will look explore self-care strategies in third and final hour.

• The first workshop is scheduled for 9:00 AM to noon
• The second will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

The program is free and counts towards Continuing Education.

According to the Press Release, younger generations-especially Gen Z, are more likely to report having poor mental health than their older counterparts. Experts are unsure why this is the case. However, they agree that it needs to be addressed. Developmental trauma is particularly problematic. If left unaddressed, it can result in ADHD, PTSD, and other psychological diseases. It can also have a serious impact on a child's ability to learn and the overall classroom experience. In many cases, teachers are the first line of defense in combating mental illness.

Orli Avi-Yonah is a clinical psychologist and social worker. She has supervised, taught, lectured and consulted at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, Law School and Medical School. Avi-Yonah has also maintained a private practice for decades. Her area of expertise is trauma, and she has lectured on that topic in K-12 schools and co-directed a program to address the prevention of relational aggression at K-12 schools.
