Wikipedia has this to say about the Ivory Billed Woodpecker

The ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) is one of the largest woodpeckers in the world, at roughly 20 inches (51 cm) long and 30 inches (76 cm) in wingspan. It is native to types of virgin forest ecosystems of the Southeastern United States and Cuba. Because of habitat destruction and, to a lesser extent, hunting, its numbers have dwindled to the point where whether any remain is unlikely, though reports have indicated it may have been seen again in the 21st century. Almost no or no areas today can support an ivory-billed woodpecker population. It is called the "holy grail bird" due to its appearance and behavior and is subject to much rediscovery efforts and speculation.

Admission to this event is free, but please register here to let them know how many will be able to attend the event.
