Since our regular news guy isn't here I thought maybe I better jump in a write a little congratulatory piece about and to our friends at Pleasant Grove High School, you know, the State Champs!

Since my son grew up playing baseball and basketball with most of the kids on this PG Hawks State Championship football team, I know a bunch of these guys and I'm just as proud of them as any other parent of a PG kid.

16 - 0, what an amazing season for the 2017 Hawks in their quest to be the best in Class 4A Div II Texas high school football.

First, they won the Kicker Cup for having the best local record, then the District Championship finishing the regular season at 10-0, then it was on to the playoffs. The opponents fell one-by-one until they had the chance to take on the Southeast Texas powerhouse of West Orange-Stark. Eight times the Mustangs have been to the big game and four times they won it, including the last two years in a row. PG came into that game as the understandable underdog as this was their first appearance in the championship game ever.

The Hawks dominated most of the game until a surge by the Mustangs in the 4th Quarter that threatened PG's first ever championship, that is until the PG defense stepped and put the game away with back to back interceptions that went for touchdowns.

41-21 Hawks win!

Amazing game, amazing finish and how good did our kids look on Fox Sports Southwest. Just saying.

Congratulations again guys, thank you to the players for an incredible year and to Coach Josh Gibson and his staff, well done. Who could ask for better than 16-0.

Hawk Nation and dare I say, most of Texarkana, is proud of you all.
