Your Bowie County Sheriff's Office was busy two weeks ago as they took calls about someone trying to get money over the phone and telling folks he was with the BCSO. He is not. For those that may have missed the alert last week, we have the reminder below. Plus, your weekly Bowie County Sheriffs Report as prepared by Chief Deputy Robby McCarver for the week of 2/28 - 3/6, 2022.

SCAM ALERT REMINDER

In case you missed this Scam Alert from last week's report, here it is again:

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office has had numerous calls from citizens about being contacted by someone claiming to be "Lt. Johnson" from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office. "Lt. Johnson," says there has been a warrant issued out of Bowie County for their arrest. His instructions are for the citizens to purchase Green Dot cards and provide the numbers to avoid arrest. "Lt. Johnson" is calling from 903.231.5883 and that number is being traced down currently. The Bowie County Sheriff's Office does not and will never request anyone to purchase any type of gift card to avoid arrest. They also do not contact citizens and provide payment by phone options to avoid arrests. This is a SCAM. There is not even a "Lt. Johnson" working for the Bowie County Sheriff's Office. If you have questions about the validity of a phone call coming from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, please contact us at our non-emergency phone numbers of 903.798.3149 (for Texarkana) or 903.628.6815 (for New Boston). Someone at either location can verify who works for our office. Also, never provide anyone that you do not know money over the phone in this fashion. If you do, the money is gone as soon as the card numbers are provided and there is no way for it to be recovered. If you receive a similar call from "Lt. Johnson" it is a SCAM. Do not cooperate with the requests and simply hang up.

LOOK: What 25 Historic Battlefields Look Like Today

The following is an examination of what became of the sites where America waged its most important and often most brutal campaigns of war. Using a variety of sources, Stacker selected 25 historically significant battlefields in American history. For each one, Stacker investigated what happened there when the battles raged as well as what became of those hallowed grounds when the fighting stopped.

These are the battlefields that defined the United States military’s journey from upstart Colonial rebels to an invincible global war machine.
