As major movie productions keep on getting more secretive, even the best laid plans keep on getting foiled by one thing: merchandising. Yes, hide you costumes and characters and plot points all you want, because when the toys arrive, all bets are off! The latest casualty in this very silly war is Iron Man’s new armor (the Mark XLIII), which was supposedly going to make its debut at some point in ‘Avengers 2’ but can now be clearly seen, examined, and salivated over in toy form.

As they are wont to do, Hot Toys (via ComicBook.com) is releasing a highly detailed (and probably obscenely priced) figure of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark in his shiny new Mark XLIII armor, which seems to combine elements from all of his previous designs into a new package. However, the new armor does appear a little less streamlined than the past few incarnations. it’s bulkier, busier and probably packed with all kinds of new Ultron-killing weapons. The fact that his new armor exists in the first place is essentially confirmation that Tony’s current outfit is going to get totally wrecked prior to the climax, forcing him to break out something new at the last second. It's the Iron Man way.

Set photos have also shown off new costumes for Captain America and Hawkeye, so we‘re probably going to get some more crazily detailed shots coming our way soon. In the meantime, you can bask in the glow of this admittedly very cool toy that no reasonable human being could ever justify owning. Good thing we’re not reasonable, right?

Anyway, here’s the official description of the toy:

The movie-accurate Mark XLIII Collectible Figure is highly detailed and specially crafted based on the image of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/Mark XLIII in Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring a newly painted Tony Stark helmeted head sculpt, metallic red, gold and silver armor with weathered effects, LED light-up functions, and a specially designed diorama base with a damaged Ultron Mark I. A special edition will be available for selected markets which includes a LED lighted battle damaged helmet as bonus accessory.

‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ opens on May 1, 2015. You can check out shots of the new armor below or click on the link above to see the rest.
