Having a baby is a very special time of your life. I have been there for the birth of both of my children and it was one of the highlights of my life, but is having a baby in Arkansas a bad thing?

Is it really that bad to have a kid in Arkansas? Wallethub has done a recent study and Arkansas has unfortunately ranked at 47 out of a possible 51 states to have a baby. Did you know the average cost of having a child is $4,500 with insurance? And without insurance that cost can skyrocket well over $10,000. Our neighbors in Texas are not much better coming in at 34th. Now before you get all out of shape here is the information they used to come up with this ranking.

Using 30 different factors from cost of healthcare, health insurance premiums, and the cost of a babysitter as well as opportunities for child and parent education, and family-centered programs that are available in the state. Here is the reason for Arkansas to be so low on the list? It was last in total health care costs. It was 30th in baby friendliness and  45th in family friendliness. On a good note, it is top 5 in the lowest infant care costs per year.

What is most important is you do not let these statistics deter you from having a baby. The most important factor is finding a doctor you trust and helps make the process less stressful. Being a father of two I will tell you that finding the doctor is the biggest part of your overall childbirth experience.
