A&M-Texarkana to Hold Full-Scale Emergency Response Drill on October 7
It's always good to be prepared in case of an emergency. That's why Texas A&M University-Texarkana will be having a full-scale emergency response plus a full campus evacuation drill.
During the drill that will take place on Friday, October 7 there will be participants from local, state, and federal authorities. There will also be staff from local hospitals and other first responders. So if you all of a sudden see that there looks like something disastrous is happening in that area, please remember it is just a drill.
The drill will start at around 9 AM and will be completed sometime around noon.
The drill will include the enactment of an active shooter on campus. They will also practice with multiple staged injuries and fatalities. The university’s faculty, staff, and students will be instructed through the university’s RAVE emergency notification system, and at some time during the drill, they will be instructed to evacuate the campus.
Law enforcement and other emergency responders will respond to the exercise using lights and sirens to more fully simulate an actual emergency.
A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Emily Cutrer said in a press release;
“The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. While we realize that these types of exercises are complicated and involve scenarios that are difficult to think about, we know that they ultimately make our campus community a safer place to live, work, and learn. We are thankful for our community partners who are participating in this drill. We will all be better prepared because of it.”
