The school year has come to a close, but not before the Texarkana, Texas Independent School District thanked local businesses and volunteers who made it such a successful year.

The district honored area Partners in Education and Volunteers in Public Schools during its annual recognition dinner in May.

Awards were presented as follows:

Wells Fargo “Shining Star” Awards presented to:

Sada Hutcheson (Spring Lake Park Elementary, Anna Johnson (Wake Village Elementary School), Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Kennedy (Theron Jones Early Literacy Center), Darrah McGuire (Texas Middle School), Julie Mitchell (Morriss Elementary School), Sylvester Nelson (Westlawn Elementary School), Toni Nix (Highland Park Elementary School), Vicki Post (Texas High School), Laura Spicher (Nash Elementary School) and Shelia Starks (Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Learning Center);

Partner of the Year Awards presented to Twice as Nice Music Academy (Small Business/Group), Wells Fargo (Medium Business/Group) and Texas A&M University – Texarkana PEP Program (Large Business/Group);

“Whole Heart” Award presented to Texas High School Prom Committee;

Partner of the Year Non-Profit Award presented to First Baptist Church – Wake Village;

“Promise” Award presented to AMICAES of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Centre West Baptist Church, Church on the Rock, Derrick McGary, Gamma Kappa Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Kadie Cleveland, Kappa Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Partners in Education Advisory Board, Regions Bank, Texarkana Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Texarkana College, Theta Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, TISD Maintenance Department;

Volunteers In Public Schools Awards presented to Texas High School (Team I), Wake Village Elementary (Team II) and Highland Park Elementary (Team III);

Board of Trustees/Superintendent Award presented to Texas High School Volunteers In Public Schools “Dash for Cash” Scholarship Run Committee.

The Partners In Education (PIE) program and Volunteers In Public Schools program enriches and maximizes the educational experiences of students and staff by developing cooperative partnerships with businesses, parents and community members.

The efforts of one person, one company or one organization can change the life of a student and make a dynamic difference in a program or a school.
