The Texas High Tiger Baseball team has more experienced players this season and that's expected to make a big impact this year.

Tiger Head Baseball Coach John McClure says in 2017 they only returned two starters and that team was led by 5 starting Sophomores. That inexperience led to a 4th place finish in district and a playoff loss to Forney.

But those players are coming back obviously with experience this year and that leads to high expectations. Overall there are 6 starters returning from last year. The starting nine on the field will basically be made up of 3 seniors, 5 juniors, and 1 freshman.

Coach McClure says he has several pitchers he can turn to this year including Walker Davis, Cameron Radney, Chris Sutton, Chris Cowan, Cole Jean, and several others.

McClure says as far as hitting is concerned, Dakota Turner has started off the season really hot, Other players he expects to be producers at the plate include Chris Lyles, Jakob Hearne, Chris Sutton, and Conner Allred.

Defense is very important in baseball and the coach believes this will be one of his team's strong points this season. He says, "Other teams will have to earn their runs."

As for the district foes the Tigers will encounter, McClure expects Sulphur Springs and Hallsville to be competitive for sure, as both teams return their two main pitchers.

McClure expects his more experienced Tigers to perform better than last year, saying,"We expect to challenge for the district championship and advance in the playoffs."
