Even locally, long time Democratic Miller County Clerk Ann Nicholas was defeated. Meanwhile, in Bowie County in Northeast Texas, former County Judge James Carlow won his old job back by soundly defeating Incumbent Sterling Lacy. Texarkana Texas voters also approved a proposition to allow the sale of beer and wine and grocery and convenience stores.

Across the state of Texas, the Republican Party kept their twenty year winning streak as far as statewide offices are concerned. Greg Abbott was elected the new Governor, Dan Patrick the new Lt. Governor, and George P. Bush was elected as Land Commissioner.

In Arkansas, Republican Asa Hutchinson beat Mike Ross for Governor, while Tom Cotton was the winner in the Senate race over Mark Pryor. Tim Griffin wins the Lt. Governor race and Bruce Westerman of the GOP defeated James Lee Witt.

Ruth Penny Bell will be the first woman Mayor of Texarkana after defeating David Haak yesterday. Also Arkansas voters decided to increase the state minimum wage and to say no to allowing alcohol sales in all the counties of the state.
