The Texarkana Museum Systems will have a  program called "Canned Christmas" on July 23rd  at the historic P.J. Ahern home.

The museum systems invite you to participate in their unique crafting event  "Canned Christmas". This will take place at the PJ  Ahren Home in historic downtown Texarkana. The program begins at 2p on Saturday, July 23rd. This is what the Texarkana Museum Systems had to say about this event:

Canned Christmas coming to the P. J. Ahern Home on July 23! Create mason jar Christmas gifts and learn how to start your own Rumtopf!

Admission to this event is $20 for Texarkana Museum System Members and $25 for non-members. If you are curious, germanamerica.com describes what a 'Rumtopf' jar is all about.

A Rumtopf is a clay jar (or sometimes glass) that gets filled with fruit, sugar and then RUM. The whole mass sits for 4-6 weeks, and then you can enjoy the augmented fruits on your puddings, ice cream… or just straight out of a dish. It is a delicious way to preserve fresh fruit.

Check you this video on how to make a Rumtopf.

The historic PJ Ahern home was designed by the original owners in the early 1900s. The two-story home features four bedrooms, four baths, a butler pantry, a music room, and a screened-in porch that was added in 1918 for the kids to sleep in.

The PJ Ahern was purchased in 2011 by the Texarkana Museum Systems and is now a historic site. The PJ Ahern home is located at 403 Laurel Street in Texarkana, Arkansas.
