There's something really special about seeing a sunflower that just seems to brighten up your day. It's sort of like seeing a bright yellow emoji with a flower face instead. Well, get ready because this weekend, Saturday, June 18, The Sunflower Trail and Festival is taking place in Gilliam, Louisiana a short drive from Texarkana.

This family-filled fun event will feature arts and crafts, food, live music, and lots of bloomed sunflowers as far as the eye can see. The Sunflower Festival is an annual event held by the non-profit organization, Red River Crossroads Historical Association. The sunflower trails will be open for everyone to enjoy if in bloom.

Sunflower Trails

There are several trails you can take and they are located on Hwy 3049 between Shreveport and Gilliam on the Sentell Rd Loop. The trail is surrounded by lots of farmland and countryside and is approximately 20 miles long with various stops along the journey.

These beautiful sunflower fields make breathtaking photographs which you are encouraged to do. You can even bring some scissors and take some sunflowers home with you. Of course, all this is dependent on weather conditions and how many are in bloom.

The festival is wheelchair accessible and you can bring your dog as long as it remains on a leash. Make sure you take time to visit the Veterans Memorial in Belcher and the Crossroads Museum in Gilliam Library. if you want to eat some great homecooked food make sure you visit the Main Street Restaurant located in an old brick building.
