Thinking back, I can't remember having seen any police officers in our area, other than State Troopers, ever wearing a hat. Well, that's about to change for Texarkana Texas Police Officers.

Texarkana Texas Police Chief Kevin Schutte announced today that there will be a new look for in headwear for Texarkana Texas police officers very soon.

TTPD provides all uniforms and equipment for their police officers, that includes body armor, body-worn cameras, and other safety equipment. Recently while considering protective equipment, the department realized it was not providing adequate protection from the sun and possible adverse weather conditions which the officers frequently have to deal with.

For decades now the standard issue police “peaked cap” (above) has been a part of the Texarkana police uniform, as it has been for many municipal police agencies across the country. Upon reflection, the Texarkana PD determined that it fails to meet the practical needs of today's police officers and its use has become primarily ceremonial. So, the department decided to explore uniform hat options that would provide protection from the sun’s harmful effects and maintain the professional image of the men and women of the department.

The Winner Is...

The department was given a choice of three different hat options to update the department’s uniform and the officers voted overwhelmingly to adopt a western-style hat.

Chief Schutte said, “We worked collaboratively with a company to create our new hat that would provide the protection needed - while continuing to maintain a professional image in the community and embracing our positioning as the gateway into the Great State of Texas. We are very pleased with the result.”

Officers will begin wearing the new hat in the next few weeks. Combine that with the new Commemorative TXK150 Badges the officers are getting this year and you've got one snazzy-looking T-Town Cop.

Congratulations TTPD!
