Meat Loaf Blames Recent Stage Collapse on Dehydration, Shares New Fitness Plan
Don't worry, Meat Loaf fans: The singer is on the road to recovery from his recent stage collapse — and he's taking steps to prevent a similar situation from occurring again. As previously reported, Meat Loaf lost consciousness during a stop in Edmonton on June 16, falling to the stage while performing “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” Soon after being rushed to the hospital, his social media channels reported he was "stable" after being treated for what was described as "severe hydration."
"I got sick and I got dehydrated and then I had to drink what they call pedialytes – gallons of them," he told Classic Rock Magazine. "I knew I was about to go and I didn’t want to just fall and hit. I was getting really dizzy and I’m going, 'Oh my god, I think I’m gonna faint.' So I didn’t want to stand there until I just fainted and cracked my skull open. So I just said, 'Okay, I’m going to kinda go down.' But about halfway down I went completely out, and I didn’t wake up until I got to the hospital."
Describing himself as "okay" following the ordeal, he outlined the reasons for his condition — and described the new fitness regime that's helped him get more than halfway to his weight loss goal.
"I had back surgery and knee surgery within the last two years, and the knee surgery failed, so I haven’t been able to work out on tour," he explained. "So I’m going to acupuncture, physical therapy, and a trainer, starting Monday for four days a week, an hour and a half each session. ... We’re trying to watch out for my health and make it easier onstage."
