Martin Scorsese Directing Netflix Reunion of Canada’s ‘SCTV’
Netflix is taking Martin Scorsese from The Irishman to Canada. The revered filmmaker will direct a reunion special of classic sketch comedy series SCTV, featuring original stars Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara and more.
Per Netflix’s announcement, the untitled special will feature Jimmy Kimmel moderating a reunion of SCTV cast Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Dave Thomas. An Afternoon With SCTV will feature a live studio audience and tape at Toronto’s historic Elgin Theatre in May, as “the filming will be part of the Netflix special.” Here’s a photo of the reunited cast:
The original SCTV ran for six seasons between 1976 and 1984, and also featured such comedy icons as the late John Candy and Harold Ramis. Much of the original cast went on to Hollywood, and cast members like Martin Short even brought some of his characters to SNL. The new special will also be produced by SCTV alum Andrew Alexander of Second City, Emma Tillinger Koskoff of Sikelia Productions and Lindsay Cox of Insight Productions.
We’ll likely see more of the SCTV reunion next month, so stay tuned.
