Main Street El Dorado Presents ‘Shamrockin’ on the Square’
Now that we made it through Mardi Gras it's time for another celebration in March! Main Street El Dorado presents “Shamrockin on the Square," in historic downtown El Dorado on Saturday, March 12, from 11 am to 4 pm.
Shamrockin on the Square is a pre-St. Patrick's Day celebration filled with fun for all ages including a sanctioned chili cookoff, cornhole tournament, beer garden, great food, kid's activities, and new this year vendors market. Admission is free to the festival with some activities requiring a fee.
Grill Wars Chili Cook-Off
The Grill Wars season kicks off with an ICS sanctioned Chili Cook-Off. The cooking starts at 9 am with judging starting at noon. Over $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in 3 categories, with First Place Traditional Red receiving $500 cash and a trophy. With this being an ICS Sanctioned event, the Top 3 cooks will receive an invitation to the World Championship Chili Cook-Off in Myrtle Beach, SC.
From 1 pm - 3 pm, Enjoy all-you-can-eat chili as the public will have a chance to taste competition chili. $10 will allow you to sample all the chili you can stand and vote for your favorite.
Registration for the event is going on now and will start at $35 dollars for the required, Traditional Red chili entry, and optionally $25 for the Verde category and $30 for the Homestyle category. Get your team registered now for one, or multiple categories at www.mainstreeteldorado.org.
Vendor Market
This year’s newest addition to the festival is the Vendor Market open from 11-4. Some of the area's most unique vendors will be at the Market. A $10 entry fee gets you in the running for some fantastic prizes including the Grand Prize drawing and a ticket for All-You-Can-Eat Chili Tasting.
Fun Zone
Festival-goers will have their pick of fun events and attractions that will fill the streets of downtown El Dorado. Kids will have a blast on the inflatables, playing yard games featuring Giant Jenga, Giant Connect 4, and more.
And for adults, test your aim in the Winner-Take-All Cornhole Tournament run by SouthArk Cornhole. The entry fee is $10 per person open to ages 10+up. Registration begins at 11:30 with the tournament starting at noon.
Adults can also enjoy The Kilt, Axe Throwing booth. Have fun throwing axes at wooden targets and see if you can hit the bullseye. $10 per game or 2 games for $15. The Kilt will also be awarding a cash prize for the top score of the day.
Beer Garden
Adult beverages of sorts will be available for cash purchase from 11 am-4 pm. Everyone 21 years and older, please bring your photo ID to purchase alcohol.
Great Food
Come out to enjoy the best food in the area from all the great downtown restaurants with some of the best crawfish and shrimp around served at Ragun Cajun. $25 plates will feature your choice of one pound of Shrimp or three pounds of crawfish with all the fixins. Then, cool off with a frozen treat from King Kone snow cones.
Live Music
All-day, live music will be playing on the Square featuring the region’s most talented acts. It all starts at 11:00 am with the debut performance by Cavin Kemble, followed by Jordan Sheppard at 11:45, and Blackstrap featuring JT Lee will take the stage at 1:30 pm to keep the party going before Arkansas’s largest Rock-Paper-Scissors competition.
Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship
Open to ages 10+ up, bring your A-game to test your RPS skills with the one and only, Henry Frisby at the mic to emcee the competition. Entry is $5 cash per person. The winner takes home all the bragging rights and a HUGE trophy. Registration at 2:30 pm with the Competition starting at 3 pm on the Union County Courthouse steps on Washington St.
