Tyler Students Can Get Free School Supplies at #SchoolIsCool Event

(Tyler, Texas) Summer is winding down for East Texas students. Families will soon be settling back into school routines. Back-to-school shopping is underway for clothing, supplies, and other school necessities, which can quickly become expensive. To offset some of the back-to-school expenses, Tyler ISD students can receive free back-to-school supplies by attending the #SchoolIsCool event August 6 at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center and Rose Garden Center in Tyler.

What Is the #SchoolIsCool Event?

Texas parents are expected to spend about $560 per child for school supplies this year, according to CBS19. Thanks to generous Tyler-area businesses, 2,000 students will receive backpacks filled with school supplies for school-aged children on a first-come, first-served basis during the #SchoolIsCool event. Pens, pencils, paper, folders, notebooks, spirals, and more will fill these backpacks, helping students start the new school year with essential classroom supplies.

What Free Services Will Be Available?

The event is scheduled for August 6 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center on W Front Street in Tyler. The event is more than backpacks and school supplies; a wide variety of services and resources will be available for families to take advantage of.

#SchoolIsCool has been bringing businesses, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, volunteers, and Tyler community partners together for 13 years to prepare students for the start of another school year and support a successful one.

Who Can Receive a Free Backpack?

This event is free to attend, and supplies are limited. Students must be present to receive a backpack. Plan to arrive early, as a line usually forms on-site before the doors open to the public.

The first day of classes for Tyler ISD students will be Wednesday, August 12.
