Lockhart BBQ Spot Crowned Texas’ Best Cheap Barbecue
We Texans love our barbecue. And while the debate will never be settled when it comes to who has the best in the state, I’m always willing to listen to others’ opinions on the matter. So, I was quite interested when I came across Cheapism’s list of the best places to get good, cheap barbecue in every state.
First of all, I feel like barbecue is one of the best meals for the price. You can typically buy it by the pound and get plenty of bang for your buck. Not only will you walk away with a full belly and a smile on your face, but you will also have plenty of leftovers. I have yet to try a locally owned barbecue joint and not feel like I got my money’s worth.

So yeah, I knew I most likely wouldn’t disagree with the website’s pick for the Lone Star State (if I had ever eaten there, anyway). But it turns out, I’ve had the barbecue they deemed the best cheap barbecue in Texas on many occasions.
If you ever find yourself in Lockhart (aka the Barbecue Capital of Texas), I highly recommend you pay a visit to Kreuz Market (pronounced “krites”, rhymes with “bites”). Of course, a great place to start is with their brisket, which, for my money, is the true measuring stick for every Texas barbecue. However, don’t stop there. It’s all good. You won’t be disappointed.
