Some big improvements are set to take place at two Texarkana city parks that will attract more sports tourism and tournaments to our area.

The City of Texarkana, Texas City Council recently passed two resolutions for construction to take place at Swanger Complex located at Spring Lake Park and the soccer complex at Grady T. Wallace Park.

Some of the upgrades that are planned are turfing the fields at Swanger Complex and turfing and reconditioning the soccer fields at Grady T. Wallace.

These upgrades will boost sports tourism in Texarkana and help attract more sports tournaments. Plus it's a wonderful benefit for our local leagues that will use these fields throughout the year.

According to a press release, the projects approved are not to exceed $11,579,332. These projects will primarily be funded by the 2023 Bond Fund which was set up to develop the local economy through sports tourism.

Ross Cowling, the Sports and League Manager for the City of Texarkana, Texas said in a press release,

We’ve been working diligently with MTG and Symmetry Sports Construction on this project. It’s a major improvement, but also a big investment for our community to have these upgrades for the business that it will bring to town.

Other renovations that are expected at the Swanger Baseball Complex at Spring Lake Park are renovations of the baseball fields and bullpens, remodeling of the concession and restroom building, removal of the existing and construction of a new concrete fire lane, upgrades to the parking lot and sidewalks There will also be lighting upgrades for field 5 at Swanger Baseball Complex at Spring Lake Park. They will be turfing six baseball fields with synthetic turf, and expanding and remodeling the restroom and concession facilities. They will also be adding a canopy for the breezeway. The council approved the project in an amount not to exceed $8,279,710.

Renovations expected at Grady T. Wallace Park include field conversion, regrading of natural grass soccer fields and one new synthetic turf field. There will also be renovations of the existing concession and restroom facilities. They will also remove the asphalt drive and construct new fire lanes, natural grass renovation, shockwave and topdressing, and installation of sidewalks plus a gate and entryway.  All of this to not to exceed $3,199,622.
