Texarkana College Sets New Enrollment Record – 5100+ Students

Texarkana College has reached its highest enrollment ever, with more than 5,100 students enrolled for fall 2026 as of September 4. The new record surpasses the college’s previous high of 5,054 students, set in 2009.

TC President Dr. Jason Smith said the milestone represents more than just a number, pointing to the growing number of students and families around the Texarkana area choosing the college as they prepare for careers and further education.

“This record is exciting because of what it represents: more students being given an opportunity, more families being impacted, and more people in our region preparing for a better future,” Smith said.

The college is still enrolling students for its second eight-week courses, which begin October 12.

TC Workforce Programs Continue to Grow

Workforce education has been a major part of TC’s recent enrollment growth. For the fourth consecutive year, workforce enrollment has increased by more than 20%.

Students are pursuing training for careers in fields including nursing, aviation technology, welding, construction, HVAC, automotive and diesel technology, culinary arts, cosmetology and electrical technology.

Texarkana College also continues to see growth through its dual-credit programs, which allow high school students to earn college credit while completing their high school education. Some students are now graduating with both a high school diploma and a Texarkana College associate degree.

Regional Colleges Seeing Growth

TC’s record enrollment comes as other higher education institutions in the region are also reporting growth. Texas A&M University-Texarkana has experienced record enrollment, while University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana continues to see year-over-year growth.

Smith said cooperation among the region’s higher education institutions can help build the skilled workforce needed by local industries.

While celebrating the new enrollment record, Smith said the college’s focus remains on providing opportunities for students and preparing them for the future.

“We are proud of this moment, but we are not done,” Smith said. “We will continue creating opportunities for students throughout our region and helping them build a better future for themselves and their families.”
