One of Texarkana's most recognizable buildings is getting a little extra recognition, and it's something that all of us in Texarkana can be proud of.

The City of Texarkana, Texas, will dedicate a new Recorded Texas Historic Landmark marker at City Hall on Monday, November 9, at 5:30 PM. The public is invited to attend the ceremony taking place on the front steps of City Hall, located at 220 Texas Boulevard.

The dedication will take place just before the regular City Council meeting, which begins at 6 PM.

The Texas Historical Commission awarded City Hall the Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation in 2025. It's the highest honor the state can give a historic building, recognizing its architecture and importance to the community.

More Than 100 Years of Texarkana History

The timing of the dedication is pretty special, too. It comes just three days before the 101st anniversary of City Hall's grand opening on November 12, 1925.

According to a press release, the four-story building was constructed between 1924 and 1925 and features Neoclassical Revival architecture. It was designed by C.H. Page & Brother of Austin and Witt, Seibert & Halsey of Texarkana.

If you love learning about the history of this town, you'll love this...the first City Council meeting was held there on September 1, 1925. When the building was officially dedicated that November, the celebration included a parade, banquet and community festivities.

For more than 100 years, City Hall has been the center of local government and has been part of some of the biggest changes and decisions in our city's history.

It's easy to pass by a building like this every day without thinking about all the history behind it. This new marker is a great reminder of where we've been and something Texarkana residents can take pride in.

Everyone is invited to come out and be part of the celebration!
