The shots fired call came into 911 at approximately 6:48 p.m. When the Officers arrived at the scene eventually locating the apartment where the shooting happened, the door was open and the Officers observed blood inside on the living room floor in plain view, but no victim. TAPD Criminal Investigation Division Detectives arrived a short time later and the investigation of what happened began, still, they were unable to locate a victim.

An undetermined amount of time later, detectives were advised the gunshot victim, a 24-year-old black male, who has not yet been identified, had left the apartment to an unknown location in Mt. Pleasant, TX. The victim was treated for injuries to his hand at a medical facility in Mt. Pleasant.

CID Detectives later determined that the gunshot victim was apparently mishandling his firearm when he accidentally shot himself.
